IMPACT OF IGNORANCE ABOUT THE INTRAUTERINE DEVICE ON FAMILY PLANNING IN PRIMARY CARE

Problem: Primary care in promoting women's health encompasses family planning and, having as challenges the sociocultural variations in the country, information on long-acting contraceptive methods does not reach the family planning of most pregnancies. The copper intrauterine device (IUD), even offered by SUS, there is still resistance to its use, even with scientifically proven efficacy. Objective: To report an educational experience to users of the SUS regarding IUD, based on the analysis of the lack of knowledge about this product. Method: Experience report of educational action on the IUD based on information collected from women with unplanned pregnancies. Results: The methodology used to direct the information, according to regional demand, was the Arc of Maguerez, as a problematizing strategy. Conclusion: An increase in women's interest in IUD was observed after demystification of false content about the method. The challenges encountered were partially overcome, but issues of expanding the scope of IUD information, as a method for family planning need better structuring and diversification to improve women's health promotion.
