Abstract

COVID-19 is a systemic infection, where it was possible to notice the effects caused in the hematopoietic system and in hemostasis, evidenced by important alterations in the quantity of lymphocytes, granulocytes and platelets, besides alterations in the coagulation process. Based on the evaluation of these alterations, it was possible to identify the hemogram as one of the most efficient tests in the monitoring of infection by SARS-CoV-2, since with it it is possible to perform a quantitative and qualitative hematopoietic evaluation, as a way to optimize the patient's follow-up and clinical development. The present study aims at verifying the clinical and laboratory findings, as well as correlating the consequences that these findings have on the patient's clinical status, and the importance of evaluating the laboratory indices at the beginning of the disease and during its evolution. Through these hematological parameters, it is possible to determine the clinical status of the patient, as well as analyze probable complications and determine a more efficient prognosis, being able to generate a continuous monitoring strategy for patients at high risk of impairment by the disease. The impact on the hematopoietic system and on hemostasis is evidenced by important alterations in the quantity of lymphocytes, granulocytes, and platelets, as well as alterations in the coagulation process.
