Abstract

Objective: To identify and analyze the barriers to adherence to the treatment of chronic non-communicable diseases in the context of primary care. Methodology: This study is a cross-sectional study with 68 users seen at the Basic Health Unit in São José do Rio Preto, São Paulo, Brazil. In addition, a structured direct interview was conducted, divided into three parts, which sociodemographic, lifestyle and medication issues in use. In addition, to check non-adherence to drug treatment, the Brief Medical Questionnaire was used. The data were analyzed using the Chi-square test and Fisher's exact test. Results: They revealed a frequency of non-adherence to treatment of 41.8% in the regime barrier, 22.1% in the belief barrier and 51.5% of the sample in the recall barrier. Conclusion: It was possible to identify the difficulties in adhering to the treatment of chronic diseases and it was noted that the most affected were those of adherence and recall, thus enabling the development of health actions that strengthen the importance of continuing treatment in order to increase the quality of life of that population
