MENTAL HEALTH NURSING CARE IN THE FAMILY HEALTH STRATEGY: AN INTEGRATIVE REVIEW

There is an important history of evolution of legislation and care practices aimed at the treatment and care of patients with mental pathologies. However, there is still a need to improve techniques in nursing care, especially in the Family Health Strategy (ESF), in the treatment of patients with mental disorders. Objectives: To point out the changes that have occurred in the scope of mental health nursing care with the advent of the Family Health Strategy; describe the benefits provided to patients with the implementation of this new approach; and to point to the possibilities of improving nursing practices in the care of patients with mental pathologies. Methods: This is an integrative review, carried out through the Virtual Health Library platform, from August to October 2022. We included articles from national research, published in the last five years, that analyzed mental health nursing care in the Family Health Strategy. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, nine articles were selected for the analysis. Results: They were grouped with the following categories: the role of the ESF nurse with mental health; and matrix support as a facilitating agent and the main challenges for the nursing team. Conclusion: Despite the implementation of new care methods in the scope of nursing care and the relevance of such care, there is still a failure, mainly due to the stigmas faced in mental health, and the lack of training and activities of permanent education to professionals.
