This paper aims to identify the essential terminology for determining the scientific, practical, and educational applications of Legal Radiology in Brazil, separating the term based on discipline form and scientific objects, historical periods, and investigative techniques. The role of Legal Radiology specialists becomes vitally important regarding the appreciation of Medical Radiology as a science, having in mind the advent of new theoretical and conceptual methods of this field, which justifies the value of this study. Legal Radiology, as well as every science, comprehends several fields of knowledge. Currently, the professional market develops degradingly, without the due educational and philosophical bases that are necessary for a healthy growth. For this reason, the ontology of Forensic Radiology is necessary.
