THE IMPORTANCE OF NURSING IN PATIENT SAFETY IN THE URGENCY AND EMERGENCY SECTOR: AN INTEGRATIVE REVIEW

Introduction: The urgency and emergency sector form an important piece in health care. The increase in services in this area and the lack of structuring before health care institutions has generated an overload in the service offered to the population. As a result, the areas of urgency and emergency have become the most problematic areas of the health system. Objective: To highlight in the literature the importance of patient safety in the Urgency and Emergency sector, to verify methods and protocols that are or could be used to reduce the risks that occur within health care as a whole. Method: This is an integrative review, with data collection between April and May 2023 through the Virtual Health Library (VHL) platform. We found 9 articles. Results: From the analysis of the articles, it was divided into three categories: the lack of current scientific evidence in the context of nursing in urgency and emergency; patient participation in improving health care safety; high working hours X communication X individual errors. Conclusion: It is suggested that further nursing investigations be carried out on this theme, using different research methods. A greater approach to the theme is recommended in the spaces of professional training, since this will enable better learning and knowledge for applicability in care practice, thus contributing to patient safety in an urgency and emergency sector.
