Abstract

The pandemic has affected thousands of people globally, especially frontline professionals, as they deal daily with the COVID-19 virus, such as doctors, nurses, biomedical, nursing and laboratory technicians, physiotherapists, receptionists and hospital cleaning staff. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate the impact that this pandemic caused on the lives of professionals working on the front line against coronavirus in Brazil, and for this, data were collected from 103 individuals of both sexes through a virtual standard questionnaire conducted on the Google Forms platform and sent by social networks. A predominance of females between 19 and 25 years of age was observed, in which the vast majority considered the degree of exposure to the virus during occupational activity to be high, reported that most of their co-workers were removed because of contagion or/and death and many of the interviewees lost friends and family due to the virus, in addition, mental health was the most affected during this period. Based on these impacts, it is necessary to perform interventions, mainly psychological, in order to reduce negative impacts and promote mental health during and after the pandemic, a time when people need to readapt and deal with emotional, physical, social and economic losses and transformations.
