THE PROFESSIONAL NURSE IN THE PROCESS OF CARING FOR INSTITUTIONALIZED ELDERLY PEOPLE: A SINGULAR AND HUMANISTIC VISION

The institutionalization of the elderly in Brazil is a growing practice in the 21st century, due to the inversion of the age pyramid and the life model currently adopted by the population in general. The care of elderly people who go through the institutionalization process is a practice that requires extreme attention, adequate planning and accurate execution, in order to minimize the negative effects of this process. This study aimed to identify in the national literature the performance of the nursing professional and the contributions of the nursing team to the planning and execution of a singular and humanistic care plan regarding the health of the institutionalized elderly. This is an integrative literature review, conducted between September and November 2022. Data collection was performed by searching for scientific articles published in the last five years in the Virtual Health Library (VHL-BIREME) and in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO) portal. Six studies related to the theme were found, divided into two categories: studies focusing on the care and systematization of nursing health care for institutionalized elderly; studies focusing on falls/risk of falls in institutionalized elderly. It is emphasized the importance of demonstrating that full care when well prepared brings health benefits to institutionalized elderly, since the systematization of nursing care is applied through the nursing process.
