Abstract

Implant-supported rehabilitation has been a great alternative in the treatment of tooth loss in recent years. Due to this growing evolution of implantology, there is a growing incidence of peri-implant diseases such as peri-implantitis. The objective of this prospective longitudinal study was to evaluate peri-implant bone remodelation in patients restored with cone morse implants with a switching platform in a 10-year follow-up. Patients were recruited with rehabilitation on Morse taper implants with a diameter ranging from 3.5 to 5.5 mm in diameter, 7 to 13 mm in length and surface treatment with acid and sandblasting installed in a switching platform at the Implantology clinic at University Guarulhos in period between 1995 and 2016. 44 rehabilitated patients with a total of 202 implants were selected, however only 32 implants were evaluated in the 10-year follow-up. The cumulative success of the implants was 87.5% in 120 months, as well as bone remodeling, on average, around 1,1 mm and an incidence of peri-implantitis of 12,5%. Morse taper implants with a switching platform showed a high success rate and a low incidence of peri-implant and peri-implantitis bone loss for at least 10 years.
