Abstract

Oral health is recognized as an essential determinant of general health and well-being, associated not only with physical and mental health, but also with other factors. Dental diseases worldwide account for approximately $356.80 billion in direct costs and $187.61 billion in indirect costs. Therefore, it is essential that dental clinics adopt a management system that will help ensure operational efficiency and clinical excellence in the different aspects of dental practice. Objective: Evaluate Quality Management Systems in Dental Clinics in order to encourage dentists to implement ISO quality management systems in dental clinics and evaluate the impact of quality on management and patient perception. Materials and methods: The SALSA framework strategy was used, conducting a search in three digital databases: Google academic, PubMed and Scielo, where articles in English and Spanish, published in the last five years (2018-2023), were collected. Results: The 18 articles included in this review used various surveys in their methodology to determine if the professional provides quality services, the implementation of ISO quality management systems evaluates the impact of quality on management and patient perception. Good communication is essential for both the patient and the dental clinic staff to disseminate any information of better quality. Each professional must be encouraged to improve quality and therefore disseminate the culture of quality. Conclusion: The application of ISO standards in dental practices contributes to the standardization of processes, the improvement of quality and safety, as well as effective quality management.
