SÍNDROME DE OVARIO POLIQUÍSTICO ASOCIADO CON LA OBESIDAD: MECANISMOS FISIOPATOLÓGICOS E IMPLICACIONES CLÍNICAS - UNA REVISIÓN INTEGRADORA

Resumen

Introducción: El SOP se refiere a la asociación entre la amenorrea y la forma poliquística de los ovarios. Se caracteriza por hiperandrogenismo, que puede manifestar síntomas clínicos como acné, irregularidad menstrual, obesidad, quistes ováricos e hirsutismo. Los lípidos parecen tener una fuerte asociación con el SOP: alrededor del 50% de las mujeres con este síndrome tienen trastorno metabólico. Objetivo: Comprender la influencia de la obesidad en los cambios fisiopatológicos asociados al SOP. Metodología: Se trata de una revisión integradora realizada a través del acceso en línea en las bases de datos de Pubmed (Medline) y Bireme (Centro Latinoamericano y del Caribe de Información en Ciencias de la Salud), durante los años 2011 y 2021. Resultados: La resistencia a la insulina y el hiperandrogenismo establecen la relación entre obesidad y SOP, con un fuerte factor inflamatorio implicado en la fisiopatología. Probablemente la pérdida de la función lipótica del tejido adiposo es secundaria al hiperandrogenismo en los portadores de soplo, causando así una mayor resistencia a la insulina. Conclusión: es de suma importancia alertar sobre la importancia de la adopción de estrategias preventivas y terapéuticas dirigidas a reducir el sobrepeso/obesidad y la dislipidemia, buscando controlar el soplo, y que estudios posteriores lo reafirmen.
