Abstract

With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing was adopted as a measure to control the disease, and telehealth was adopted as one of the strategies applied to continue the follow-up of patients with chronic diseases during this period. In this context, a systematic review is proposed, aiming to analyze the use of telehealth as a method of monitoring patients with diabetes mellitus or systemic arterial hypertension during the COVID-19 pandemic. A search was carried out in the CINAHL, Embase, LILACS, Pubmed and Web of Science databases in March 2022, identifying 456 titles. Among these, 13 studies were included in the evidence synthesis. Only 1 (one) complete study obtained results of superiority of non-contact modalities for conventional care. In 50% of the works already completed (n = 3) no significant difference was found for maintenance of care, however, in two cases an improvement in the patient's experience with the use of telehealth practices was evident. It is concluded that, although telehealth practices do not present significant differences when compared to face-to-face and usual treatments, there is still a shortage of studies evaluating this practice during the pandemic. Therefore, more work and evidence on the passage of these practices are needed.
