Abstract

The pandemic of the “new” coronavirus, in addition to social and economic impacts, psychologically affects society in general, and may generate changes and mood disorders. Thus, the study aims to carry out a narrative review of the literature on the presence of mood disorders in the general population during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a narrative review article with research in the literature, in which the authors critically positioned themselves based on searches as a source of secondary evidence, through the Scielo and Pubmed databases, it was carried out between February and August 2020. Using the following keywords interspersed with Boolean logic AND: COVID19 AND anxiety, COVID19 AND anxiety AND depression , COVID AND Depression AND Anxiety. A total of 448 articles were found. From this, another categorization criterion was used, the analysis of the titles and reading of the abstracts, thus selecting 12 articles, 8 from the Pubmed database and 4 from Scielo. The highest level of stress, depression and anxiety found in the general population was in younger people, between 18 and 25 years old, in women, in individuals with chronic illnesses and in people with a history of mental illness. The health system, in view of other pandemics and epidemiological problems, must prioritize the actions of psychological support teams initially for professionals working on the front lines and then for the more vulnerable general public.
